About
Policy and Planning in One Programme
Swanson Reed's innovationCAFE is a programme of R&D tax policy and planning workshops. It covers where the rules are heading and what a business should do about it.
The first series ran in four Australian cities in 2015. A second series followed in 2016. The 2027 programme takes the format to seven countries.
Sessions are small and run for two hours. Each one is built on one of the five topics below, so attendees know before they arrive whether they are coming to discuss policy or to work on their own planning.
The Five Workshop Topics
- 1
R&D Tax Policy Discussions Forum
An open table on how R&D tax incentives are designed and who they reach. What attendees say is recorded and summarised for policymakers.
- 2
Tax Authority Audit Defense Preparation
Getting ready for a tax authority review: the questions that get asked, the evidence that carries weight and how to organise it in advance.
- 3
Legislative & Policy Change Briefings
A briefing on recent and proposed changes to the rules, and what they mean for planning the year ahead.
- 4
Cross-Border R&D Tax Rules
How the rules treat research that is carried out, funded or owned across more than one country.
- 5
Technical Activity Compliance Mapping
Matching the technical work a business actually does against the activity definitions the rules use.
